Literacy
Foundations of reading are taught through phonics-based learning combined with sight words and a variety of reading schemes to develop the children’s interest and enthusiasm. The Head of English from the Prep School regularly visits and participates in literacy theme days.
Numeracy
Numeracy is taught using a combination of practical and recording techniques. Children are encouraged to learn basic concepts through practice and reinforcement using concrete aids, and then, as they progress, they are encouraged to apply these basic skills through problem-solving and investigations.
Science
Science is taught as a practical and investigative subject. Children are encouraged to experience and enjoy the environment and to develop a curiosity for the world around them. Visits to the science laboratory in the Prep School and links between teachers and the Head of Science are an important part of the learning process.
ICT
The Pre Prep not only has a specialist teacher who teaches each class once a week in the School Computer Room, but it also has computers in every classroom for individualised learning. The specialist teacher works closely with staff to support topic work and the core subjects.
French
French is taught by a specialist teacher from Nursery upwards. The children are taught basic vocabulary through songs, games, pictures and practical activities.
