The Early Years Department (Nursery and Reception Classes) provides the foundation for the children’s future education.

We closely following the government guidelines for ‘Every Child Matters’ whilst ensuring the children are safe and happy taking part in many different play-based challenging activities both inside and outside.

The Nursery

The Nursery class caters for children aged between 2½ and 4 years with the respective age groups divided into Nursery 1 (2½-3 years) and Nursery 2 (3 – 4 years) as part of the Early Years Curriculum.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings the Nursery 1 and Nursery 2 children work independently in their respective age groups to participate in activities relevant to their stage of development.  At all other times the two age groups learn together.

It is recommended for children who join the Nursery to initially start with morning sessions, although a full day option is available.  The session system is designed to be flexible and the Nursery staff are happy to discuss the best option for your child.   All children who take part in the afternoon session are expected to go home at 3.30 p.m. unless pre-arranged with the Nursery staff.

The Nursery is open from 8.00 a.m. to enable those children who arrive early with older siblings or parents/carers who have to travel on to their place of work.  Those children joining the morning session are encouraged to arrive in the Nursery by 8.45 a.m. so that the class is able to begin at 9.00 a.m.   All children are welcome to have lunch, at no extra charge and this, again,  should be arranged with the Nursery Staff.
