Tutor System – What Parents Need to Know

How the system works

Every pupil has a personal tutor. In the Pre Prep and Forms I-III in the Prep School, the tutor is the Form Teacher. When Pupils reach Form IV in the Prep School, they are allocated a tutor who remains with your child for the last three years, or until he/she leaves the School.

Role of the tutor

The tutor role is vital for parents and child alike. The tutor is the first point of contact  for parents. The tutor will establish a rapport both with the child and his/her parents. The tutor acts as a friend and mentor to all tutees, and as a vital link between parents and pupil. It is important for the tutor and parent to establish a good rapport at the outset.

If parents have a specific worry or concern about their child , they should contact the tutor first to resolve it., The tutor is the person in the School who best knows your child  and can give advice, and, if necessary consult colleagues, before contacting the parent.

Contacting your tutor

It is important that parents know how and when best to contact the tutor and vice versa. On a day to day basis e-mail contact between parent and tutor is encouraged. It provides a written record of the issues raised, and allows the tutor to gather the necessary information before going back to the parent. It also saves time as the tutor may be teaching, on the games field, or taking activities etc.
