 | For those unfamiliar with Orwell Park, I hope that our website will give you a flavour of this leading co-educational boarding and day prep-school. It is an exciting time in the school’s history and we will continue to be innovative, to break new ground, and to take risks, but at the same time, Orwell Park is a school with a strong sense of values established over its 139 year history under the guidance of some excellent past heads. Orwell Park helps its children to succeed, to grow in confidence and to have the courage to try out new things. Children must be allowed to take risks, to get things wrong and learn from their mistakes. The world does not need a society that cannot cope with getting things wrong or which falls apart the very first time they fail.
With such a full, varied, active and long day at Orwell Park, children become aware that there has to be balance between work, rest and play. Spending so much time with each other through the fun times, through the less fun times, through the good and the bad, they learn to enjoy each others’ company, to give and to take, and to compromise. Giving way is a valuable skill to learn. It doesn’t have to hurt; it’s all part of life’s give and take. And when it’s all over at the age of 13, the children leave with great memories of their time at Orwell Park- happy days to be cherished as they move on, equipped with many qualities, and in particular with confidence, courage, compassion and courtesy.
However, no written information or website can give you a true sense of the very special atmosphere here, and so I do hope that you are tempted to visit. We would certainly like to meet you and, more importantly, we want you to meet our unique children, to sense their energy, their openness and their sense of purpose. If you visit, you will see children who are courteous, courageous, and caring of each other in an environment that encourages them to find the things that make them ‘fizz’.
