Old Orwellian London Reception at The House of Lords
Seventy years separated the youngest Old Orwellian, Mr Sam Tuke (1993-2000) with the oldest Lt Col Nesbitt (1930-1936). Much reminiscing took place and contact was rekindled between old friends and classmates. All ages were represented with many attending their first ever Old Orwellian event. Let’s hope that this was the first of many. Thank you to all those that attended and we look forward to welcoming you to more events in the future.

Half Century Club Luncheon, Orwell Park School, Nacton, Suffolk
The School's youngest musician aged 8 played a piece on the double bass and two of the eldest musicians played a superb duet on the piano. A delicious lunch took place with much banter and recollection of memories.
After lunch, the new Half Century Club tie was launched. On Old Orwellian Day, Colin Laird (1936-1940) presented Andrew Auster with a tie as a leaving gift made from his Rugby Colours which he was awarded whilst at Orwell Park. From this gesture the new Half Century tie was born. Sadly Colin died in October this year, his memorial service was held in Ely Cathedral. Made from 100% silk it is only available to Members of the Half Century Club. There is no charge for the tie but a donation to the School is welcome.

Old Orwellian Day
Orwell Park School, Nacton, Suffolk
The day started with a Memorial Service in Nacton Church celebrating the lives of Sylvia and Brian Belle, followed by the planting of a Sweet Chestnut Tree overlooking the cricket ground.
Some Old Orwellians who were returning for the first time were able to reminisce with old acquaintances. One former pupil was returning for the first time in 60 years! Those that return each year enjoying seeing old and new friends too.
During lunch, current pupil Jack Dolbey read his very amusing speech about the pros and cons of being short which had won him the Public Speaking Competition. Head Boy, Toby Skailes and Head Girl Lucy Ronan spoke of their memories of Orwell Park as they continue their education at senior school next year.
The Headmaster Elect, Mr Paul Forte was present, speaking to many former pupils during the day. At lunch he spoke of how much he was looking forward to joining Orwell Park in September.

Bedstone Court ‘Pilgrimage’
Bedstone College, Bucknell, Shropshire
17 former pupils and 12 wives returned, some for the first time since 1945 to Bedstone College. The group had a very memorable day looking around Bedstone which was devastated by fire in 1995. Thanks to Mr Symonds, Headmaster for the last 17 years, the School has been fully restored and is educating over 280, 3-18 year old boys and girls.
In the evening an informal gathering took place at the Baron of Beef in Bucknell.
With thanks to John Bagley (1945-1950) who has written an article about the Bedstone Reunion which appears in the September 2007 Newsletter.
