Nacton Home of Orwell Park School and the First Steeplechase!
Year 7 girls have recently recreated the first steeplechase for Anglia Television during Cheltenham week. History tells us that in 1803 some very bored officers of the 7th Hussars dressed in their nightshirts and fortified by something stronger than their hot chocolate rode a horserace from their barracks in Ipswich to the Steeple of Nacton Church. And so the steeplechase was born!
The riders were: Lydia Chapman, Molly McGuckian, Jessica West, Emma Lawrence, Rosie Lawrence and Jemima Erith.
