iPQ success for OPS!

The ISEB Project Qualification (iPQ) provides a framework for teaching and assessing the development of independent, pupil-led project-learning skills, taking the form of a 15-20 hour project. It can be used as a stand-alone addition to an existing curriculum, or as an alternative to one or more curriculum subjects.

Project work is assessed by the teacher and moderated by an ISEB-accredited Project Qualification moderator. Project work is submitted in the form of a record of the project process, the project outcome and evidence of a final presentation. On completion of the iPQ, pupils are awarded a certificate from ISEB.

This is a research project which typically takes 20 – 30 hours of preparation, draft and presentation, and involves a topic which is of great personal interest to individual pupils. Last years Year 8 pupils tackled the following topics:

·         Could Exoplanets support Human Life?   (Julianna, Distinction)

·         The Subconscious and Dreams as realised in Art (Daisy, Distinction)

·         The Evolution of Humans (Camilla, Merit)

·         The English Civil War: Godly Cause or Moral Bankruptcy (Elise, Distinction)

·         The Probability of Human Extinction (Jim, Distinction)

This research project has proved of enormous benefit and satisfaction in the past, and I am pleased to be able to share with you the comments of Julia Martin, CEO of the Independent Schools Examinations Board, as follows:

I wondered if you could pass this personal note on to those at Orwell Park in recognition of their pupils’ outstanding results and exciting projects? We’d love to showcase Orwell Park and what they have done with their iPQs as there is a variety of different topics, interesting approaches and I think these projects, if Orwell Park and their candidates might let us showcase these online, represent fabulous best practice as a case study school.

I must also highly commend the way in which the School has facilitated students following their passions in incredibly diverse subjects all of which are mini dissertations of their own. These children are very well set up for their future with the skills they have demonstrated here. Very well done indeed.

You can read more about the iPQ and why we do it at Orwell Park you can visit the ISEB website here - https://www.iseb.co.uk/assessments/ipq/
