Orwell Park 1st and 2nd Rugby Teams undefeated this Autumn!

For the first time since 2005, the U13A (1st) boys’ rugby team have remained undefeated throughout the Autumn Term. On top of this, the U13B (2nd) team have also achieved the same feat, making it an amazing ‘double’ for the Year 8 boys!

The 1st team played 14 matches, winning all of them, and, according to schoolsrugby.co.uk, are second in the country based on these results! The website has Orwell has having scored more points/tries (640/128) than anyone else, as well as conceding fewer points/tries (105/21) than anyone else, including the team in first position. These stats alone show the scale of the feat which the team has achieved this term.

Rugby is a sport which has teamwork at its core and the Orwell Park team have shown this in spades throughout the season. Their unity, commitment and determination to play for each other was at the heart of the team’s success. Coupled with this was a level of skill and ability which has impressed everyone who has seen the team play.  16 players all scoring tries across the 14 matches is testament to the way they played.

The captain, Sebby, was exceptional all season and Cayden got better and better as the term developed, top scoring with 20 tries from hooker (and inside centre when injuries and illness struck the team).

The final two matches of the season against two tough opponents in Framlingham Prep and Finborough showed the team’s courage and determination. For both matches, the team was incredibly depleted due to illness but the strength in depth of this group shone through and the 2nd team players who stepped up were fantastic and helped the team to victories in both matches, which were incredibly competitive.

To watch the boys work so hard and develop as much as they did, as individuals and as a squad, was fantastic and I couldn’t be more pleased for them; their efforts have been huge and for them to achieve the notoriously difficult challenge of being undefeated throughout the term is amazing and is so thoroughly deserved. For a small prep school in Suffolk to be ranked nationally is an incredible achievement.

We now move on to the 7s season and we’ll see how the boys get on playing that form of the game; however, for now, the boys will, quite rightly, revel in being one of the most successful U13 teams in the country!
